Thanks to everyone that has taken the time to publicize the online course and increase its usage, especially Tango and Rob Neyer. Also, huge props are due to Shawn Hoffman, who came up with the actual idea for the course; I’m just the patsy that did the legwork. I’m glad people have appreciated the resource and please, keep the feedback coming. If people want to expand upon the course and make other courses, go for it! I’d love to see some work done on Pitch f/x, for starters…

In other site news, per FreeZorilla’s suggestion over at DRaysBay, we now have a Calculators page in the “More” section of the Library where you can find links to many easy-to-use Google Docs calculators for various statistics. So far we’ve included calculators for wOBA, BABIP, wOBA L/R splits, FIP, xFIP, SIERA, basic Marcels projections, and Minor League Equivalencies. If there are any more ideas for calculators to include, let us know and we’ll do what we can.

There are a lot of people out there in the sabermetric community that are a) smarter than me, b) better writers than me, and c) infinitely more awesome than me. It just so happens that one of these people, Graham MacAree, has decided to write a “Sabermetrics 101″ series. You may recognize Graham as the creator of tRA or from his work on Lookout Landing; he’s an incredibly knowledgeable sabermetrician and a top-of-the-line writer, which makes anything he does pure gold.

Graham has graciously allowed me to re-post his series here on the Library, which you can now find in the “Sabermetrics Principles” section. You can read the series in chronological order (starting with “Game State” and moving down) or you can feel free to jump around from article to article. While I recommend reading the series in order, Graham has listed in each article which concepts you should have a basic understanding of before proceeding.

I hope you enjoy this series. And please, give Graham some props; this series is an invaluable resource.

The idea of this website is to provide the sabermetric community with a handy resource that can be used to educate fans new to sabermetrics, refresh the minds of established sabermetricians, and store links to important sabermetric articles in an easy-to-access fashion. I hope to continue adding articles to the Library as new ones are published, keeping this site up-to-date on all the key articles in the sabermetric community.

That said, if there is something not on this website that you would like to see (whether a statistic page or a link to a specific article), please feel free to contact me and I will do what I can. Also, if there is any article that is confusing to you, let me know and I can clarify (or direct you on to someone else who can) and fix the article. This website is still definitely a work in progress and there are a couple statistics that still need to be finalized and added, so please don’t be shy with the feedback.

Thanks to all the various sites that I’ve linked to, quoted, and stole ideas from. Big props go out especially to Fett42 at Lookout Landing for putting together this incredible resource, from which I shamelessly stole a ton of links.
